How to remember the 7 times table

  • Remember 5, 6, 7, 8: 56 = 7 × 8.
  • Split 7 into 5 and 2: 7 × 6 = 5 × 6 + 2 × 6 = 30 + 12 = 42.
  • The last digits run 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0, using every digit once.

Patterns in the 7 times table

  • Each answer is 7 more than the one before: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and so on.
  • Answers take turns being odd and even: odd × odd is odd, odd × even is even.
  • 7 × 7 = 49 is a square number: 7 rows of 7.
  • Learning in order? You already know 7 × 1 to 7 × 6 from the earlier tables (7 × 3 = 3 × 7), so only 6 of the facts up to 7 × 12 are new.
