How to remember the 1 times table
- Any number times 1 stays the same: 1 × 9 = 9. That’s why 1 is called the identity for multiplication.
- The 1 times table is just counting: 1, 2, 3, 4 and on up to 12.
- It gives you a free fact in every other table: 7 × 1 = 7 and 12 × 1 = 12.
Patterns in the 1 times table
- Each answer is 1 more than the one before: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on.
- The last digits run 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, using every digit once before repeating.
- Answers take turns being odd and even: odd × odd is odd, odd × even is even.
- 1 × 1 = 1 is a square number: 1 rows of 1.

Every times table fact works backwards too: if 1 × 8 = 8, then 8 ÷ 1 = 8.
