How to remember the 2 times table
- Multiplying by 2 is doubling: 2 × 8 = 8 + 8 = 16.
- Count in twos: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Every answer is an even number.
- The last digits repeat 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, so 2 × 7 must end in 4: 2 × 7 = 14.
Patterns in the 2 times table
- Each answer is 2 more than the one before: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and so on.
- 2 × 2 = 4 is a square number: 2 rows of 2.
- Learning in order? You already know 2 × 1 to 2 × 1 from the earlier tables (2 × 3 = 3 × 2), so only 11 of the facts up to 2 × 12 are new.
Division facts for 2
Every times table fact works backwards too: if 2 × 8 = 16, then 16 ÷ 2 = 8.
